Empties: January 2015

My first ever empties post, how exciting!  This may not be a monthly occurrence since it takes some time to finish full sized products.  I’ll try to save up enough items to warrant an entry devoted to showcasing empty bottles and jars (before they go into the recycling bin!)  Likely, my empties will predominantly feature skincare, hair care, mascaras and maybe face makeup – it’ll be a unicorn sighting when I do finish up a colour makeup item (but it has been known to happen!) personally I find empties videos / articles to be useful because the reviewer has used up an entire product, so they have a detailed experience of the product’s performance

Trash stash.

First up:

Clarins bright plus HP Brightening Repairing night cream – $68.00 for 50g (available at department stores, drugstores, where Clarins is sold)
This cream claims to brighten the skin using a complex of Raspberry & Alchemilla extracts and Vitamin C, but I didn’t see any obvious difference to my skin.  I gotten this upon recommendation that it would help minimize my “sun spots” (which are really my freckles).  This cream seemed to sit on top of my skin, and would often pill (rub off in little bits) from my face.  It has light hydration so it was a lot more suitable for summer time, and once the weather got colder, I used this on my t-zone to finish it up.  This jar lasted me about 4 months; I would not repurchase this.
Stash worthiness: 5/10

Neostrata Hydra-Infusion 24 hr Hydrating Serum* – $38 for 30ml (available at drugstores)
This was provided as a 2014 best discoveries item, and a bottle lasted me around 3 months.  I have another one started already, and an unopened one in my stash. never going to be without this!
Stash worthiness: 10/10

Body shop Shea shower cream – $9 for 250ml (available at Body shop stores and online)
I gotten this ages ago on sale and only recently busted it open once my skin started getting dry and itchy.  I’m not overly choosy when it pertains to my shower products, but I do take pleasure in a good lather.  Unfortunately, this shower cream doesn’t lather much.  It has a thick lotion consistency and uses a high level of moisture, but I never felt squeaky clean after using this (although it’s probably that squeaky clean feeling that contributed to my dry and itchy skin!)  The shower cream smells nice, a soft warm scent normal of Body Shop’s shea line of products.  It took me about a month to use this bottle up with daily use.
Stash worthiness: 6/10

Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo*– $26 for 250ml (available at Kiehl’s stores and Kiehl’s online)
I’m addicted to the smell of this shampooo. I am a slave to it. It smells like a combination of coconut and baby powder.  If I could find a perfume that smells like this, I would get it in a heartbeat and stop getting this shampoo.  As a hair cleaning agent, this is a respectable product – it cleans my hair without weighing it down, and has a good lather.  The best part: the smell lingers in my hair!  It’s expensive so I stocked up on a 1 litre pump bottle of it last year when Kiehl’s had a friends and family 20% off sale.  I’ll refill this bottle from the 1L bottle.
Stash worthiness: 9/10

Equate Oil-Free Eye makeup Remover – $6 for 162ml (available at Walmart)
I gotten this on recommendation from youtuber and fellow Canadian, Emilie Clarke. It’s quite a good eye makeup remover, with a dual-phase formula (just a fancy way of saying it has water and oily layers that have to be shaken up before use).  It is technically “oil-free” in that it consists of no oil but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s not oily.  It has silicone instead and leaves behind a slick film, and often gets into my eyes and causes momentary blindness cloudy vision. I won’t run out to repurchase this considering that I have so lots of gift with purchase bottles of eye makeup removers, plus full size bottles of Bourjois express Eye make-up remover and my HG eye makeup remover Biotherm Biocils Lash Optimizer waiting in the wings.  It took me 4 months to use up this bottle.
Stash worthiness: 7/10

Cover girl Clump Crusher Mascara*– $10 for 13.1ml (available where Cover girl is sold)
This was also in my 2014 best of list and I’ve gone through 2 tubes in 2014.  This particular version is the “Extensions” one but I didn’t find it any different than the regular Clump Crusher – they cost the same so I get hold of either one.  This product will probably make an appearance in future empties entries – I typically use a mascara for 3 months before tossing.  It’s a great everyday, no fuss mascara that is a staple in my makeup stash.
Stash worthiness: 9/10

Delon+ premium Cotton Rounds*– approx $1.60 for 100 count (available at Costco and Amazon.com)
I use this cotton round on a nightly basis with my toner or BHA/AHA liquid – it’s a lint-free cotton that doesn’t fall apart.  It’s something that I always keep on hand.
Stash worthiness: 9/10

So, that’s all for my empties.  Hope you found these mini-reviews helpful!  What have you finished up recently?

* I will do full thorough reviews on these items

What I’m Bringing to Japan (Travel Skincare)While I tend to pack light for my makeup, I don’t skim when it pertains to skincare when I travel.  I am fastidious in my skincare routine and I still maintain separate products for day and night time.
